The Gray Koala: Guardians of the Eucalyptus Forest

The gray koala, an iconic symbol of Australia, spends most of its life in the branches of eucalyptus trees. Known for their adorable appearance and calm demeanor, koalas are actually specialized feeders, relying almost exclusively on eucalyptus leaves for nutrition. Despite their sleepy reputation—koalas rest up to 18 hours a day—they are excellent climbers and can be surprisingly vocal, especially during mating season. Habitat destruction due to urban expansion and climate change poses significant challenges to koalas. Efforts to protect eucalyptus forests and rehabilitate injured koalas are critical to ensuring the survival of this beloved species.
